AccuraCounter Overview - Standalone Counter

The AccuraCounter was introduced in 1986 when Mark Walker developed an ac-powered library patron counter using an industrial security sensor and a pedometer as a display. It sold for $99 and was very popular. By the way, today's adjusted price for that sensor would be $272 plus shipping.

The AccuraCounter underwent many changes as technology improved and other features were requested - but the basic idea of a reliable, responsive, inexpensive, simple to install, simple to use counter still remains.

Today, We Count People offers a number of versions of the AccuraCounter, and those will be reviewed below. All AccuraCounters are ac-powered and provide a total count (no breakdown of hourly, daily, monthly counts). The user would walk to the display, write down the count, and reset to zero.

Uses a commercially rated sealed sensor that is slightly slower than a sensor rated for industrial duty.

TotalCounter Overview - Standalone Counter

We Count People offers a number of versions of the TotalCounter. Most of them are battery-operated, using standard (easy-to-find) batteries, with a typical battery life of 1 year. This section will review the TotalCounter versions that provide a 'total' count on their display. Another section will provide an overview of the TotalCounters that provide a breakdown of hourly, daily, weekly and monthly counts.

Overhead Counter Overview - Ceiling Mounted Counters

This section will review the counters that are installed above the entrance.

The TotalCounterOH is not as accurate as the dual lens IP Connected Video counter - nor does it offer reporting - but it is less expensive and is easier to install. The IP Connected Video counter is the most accurate, can be used to measure across very wide entrances, and includes sophisticated cloud-bases reporting packages.

This is a standalone counter that provides a total count on the remote display. Hourly, daily, weekly, monthly breakdowns not available.
  • Battery operated (standard 1.5 volt AA batteries) in the counter on the ceiling. Remote Display (with on/off chime) requires AC power.
  • Total count is shown on the remote display which can be 100 to 300 feet away in the same building, on the same floor as the counter
  • Typically installed above single door and double door entrances. Multiple counters can be integrated into one total count display.
IP Connected Video

Sophisticated cloud-based reporting software starts at $250 per year.
Hourly, Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly IN and OUT counts are available.
  • Requires an Ethernet cable to be run between the sensor on the ceiling and a network Ethernet port. If the port is not PoE, then a PoE adaptor will be required.
  • Sensor stores hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly IN and OUT counts that are sent to a sophisticated cloud-based Reporting Package accessed by a web browser.
  • Typically installed above single door and double door entrances. Wider entrances, multiple entrances, and multiple stores can all be accommodated in software.
